Moving from the 'old' policy to the new with AIG - what happens if there is a claim under the old policy?
Moving from 1 insurer to another is provided for by "retroactive cover'.
This simply means that the new insurer, AIG, will cover claims relating to prior periods.
There is an important condition and that is IF the claim or potential claim was known (even if only say as a complaint) AND it is not 'disclosed' to the new insurer (or even the previous insurer) then the insurer may decline the claim.
This is because if an insurer renews a policy it does so on the basis of FULL DISCLOSURE of any known or potential risk.
Without that information the insurer cannot fairly assess the risk.
The golden rule of disclosure is, if in doubt list the the 'circumstance'.
